Music

The Akiva Music curriculum is authentic and challenging; it provides memorable opportunities for our pupils.

At Akiva we aim to give all children an equal opportunity to take part in the experience of music throughout their time in primary school and to develop a lifelong love of music.  We encourage children to express themselves musically as individuals and within small and large groups while challenging them to perform with accuracy and precision.

Through memorable experiences of watching live performances, we develop the children’s listening skills and their appreciation of music in a variety of styles, and from different times and cultures.  It is in line with our school ethos for the children to be aware of music from Jewish culture around the world as well as other cultures opening them up to the diversity within Judaism and beyond.

We give children the opportunity to use their voices and bodies with confidence and creativity in a musical way.

Our curriculum is authentic. We integrate music where practical and desirable, into other aspects of the curriculum, thus contributing to the promotion of our pupils’ spiritual, moral, social, cultural and physical development, and their key skills of communication, number, IT, working with others, improving their own learning, performance and problem solving
